Scorched Earth
Two hundred and twenty four years ago, General George Washington, with a frozen dissolving colonial
army crossed the Delaware river and captured Trenton, New Jersey on December 26th. He breathed
life into the cause and proved the colonials were a force to be reckoned with. By this act he turned a
flickering revolution into the flames of freedom we still celebrate. He also took a disorganized group of
volunteers and forged a professional army.
Sixty six years ago the 101st and other units were thick in the fight at Bastogne, known everywhere as
the "Battle of the Bulge." In the dead of winter they decided to be pushed no further. They decided,
and they weren't. They stood fast against all odds and the response of "Nuts" to the haughty German
demand for surrender still reverberates with the American psyche. American troops are the best in the
world.
Sixty years ago in one of the first Cold War proxy wars, American and UN troops were fighting in the
frozen North Korea lands as they faced 300,000 invading Chinese troops. Ground down to dust, they
had just forged forward to the Yalu River defeating a Russian backed North Korean Army. This
communist aggressor had invaded the unprepared free South Korea. The Chosin Reservoir battle had
just ended with the surrounded Marines fighting their way clear of the massive Chinese onslaught.
Driven backwards the exhausted American forces would fight tooth and nail forward again to keep
South Korea free. Their sacrifice and our commitment to the freedom of South Korea extends to
today. Although, under a Democratic leadership how firm that resolve is, is reasonably questioned.
Thirty eight years ago operation Linebacker II under President Nixon destroyed 80% of North
Vietnam's electrical power production in the second of the actual strategic air operations against North
Vietnam. They were shaken when the actual power of the United States was focused upon them and
literally destroyed their nation in two bombing campaigns. The "Christmas Bombing" forced the
Communist North Vietnamese to capitulate in the peace talks and secured the freedom for South
Vietnam for three more years. Until, the betrayal by the Democratically controlled U.S. Congress cut
all funding and made it illegal to help the South Vietnamese when the Soviet and Chinese backed North
Vietnamese invaded in 1975. Had we truly wanted to win the war, which we didn't under the previous
Democratic led administration, we could have. Easily.
This year, well, the American military was dealt a severe blow by taking that two hundred and twenty
four year history and defecating on the entire concept of duty, honor, and country by repealing Don't
Ask, Don't Tell. This law was put in place by Bill Clinton seventeen years ago. What most people
forget is that before Don't Ask, Don't Tell, homosexuality was reason for dismissal from the service.
It still is. By putting Don't Ask, Don't Tell into place it was hardly meant to be oppressive. It was
done to protect homosexuals in the military by saying while being homosexual was cause for dismissal,
you couldn't ask. If the person with the disorder was discreet, they couldn't be questioned or
dismissed. Don't Ask, Don't Tell was a protection of homosexuals and it was a stepping stone to
degrade the service by being a stepping stone to allow open homosexuals to serve.
From George Washington to the deployed private in a base camp in nowhere Afghanistan, we have
now told them that traditional values: honor, integrity, duty, patriotism, faith, and love of country were
secondary to sexual perversion and the social engineering by liberal Democrats- who only wanted to
promote a mental disorder and didn't care what the soldiers and sailors thought or believed. If they
didn't like it, they could get out.
What Hessians couldn't do, what the Waffen SS couldn't do, what the North Koreans couldn't do,
what the North Vietnamese Communists and their handlers the Russian and Chinese Communists
couldn't do, any more than they could earlier with the Koreans, our Democratic Congress could, and
did, do.
They had help in this abomination. Scott Brown, Massachusetts; Susan Collins, Maine; Olympia
Snowe, Maine; Mark Kirk, Illinois; Lisa Murkowski, Alaska; John Ensign, Nevada; Richard Burr,
North Carolina; and George Voinovich, Ohio joined in on this devastating blow to the United States
Military. One can almost excuse the Democrats as their actions have always been anti-American. But
for eight members of the Republican Party- a party supposedly patriotic and supposedly liking America,
it is unexpected as well as odious. If they do not face a primary challenge in their states there is
little to respect of their state parties.
According to the EWTN report on December 18, 2010
"The change in policy could have significant consequences for those who assent to Christian sexual
ethics.
Many backers of the repeal also support career penalties for servicemen and women who oppose
homosexuality, including military chaplains.
Some chaplains have been told by superiors that they should leave the military if they have
problems of conscience under a repeal. Army Lt. General Thomas Bostick reportedly compared
opposition to open homosexuals in the military to opposition to racial integration, but the U.S. Army
denied the accuracy of the report.
Military officers are judged on their compliance with the equal protection goals of the military. In a
November interview, Daniel Blomberg of the Alliance Defense Fund has said that under a repeal of
the policy on homosexuals, one of those military goals will include support for “incorporating and
supporting homosexual behavior in the military.”
Archbishop of the Archdiocese for the Military Services Timothy Broglio has also opposed the
repeal, citing concerns it might negatively affect the role of military chaplains. He noted that
Catholic chaplains cannot accept or bless same-sex unions, and stated that no restrictions on the
teaching of Catholic morality can be accepted."
According to CatholicCulture.org on December 22, 2010:
"Of the 160 Catholics serving in the current US Congress (135 in the House of Representatives, 25 in
the Senate), 117 voted to repeal the "don't ask, don't tell" policy that had barred homosexuals from
serving openly in the military."
It is appalling that the greatest damage to the United States Military did not occur on some foreign
battlefield, but in the halls of Congress cheered on by their very own commander in chief.
So much for the enemies domestic part. Let's consider how they are enabling the foreign enemies part.
After the first knife stroke to the heart of the military the Democrats in Congress followed up with one
in the back. They rushed to verify the START Treaty which hadn't been in a rush until they lost
control of Congress. Russia is in no hurry. Laughing at us they have pushed back verification of the
treaty till after the first of the year in a put down that shows how much in contempt they hold the
weakling in the White House.
The Democratic Party, the party of appeasement, made the extra effort to disarm us before the
incoming Congress could object to the disadvantage we are placed in by the treaty. Not that the
Russians intend on their part to abide by the treaty. The Quislings in Congress will make sure we do.
You see the Russians, and their prior incarnation as Soviets, have never stuck to, nor planned to stick
to, any treaty at all. We know that. They know that. The only people that don't seem to know that,
or are willing to lie to themselves to achieve deniability, are the Leftists in charge.
For example, the United States developed an anti satellite weapon system launched from an F-15
fighter. This was done in response to Soviet work on anti satellite weapons. It worked and was
successfully tested in 1985. The Democrats demanded it be cancelled (They defunded the program)
and it was cancelled in 1988. The Soviets, who denied any such development and demanded the US
cancel their program, did exactly the same thing except theirs were launched from Mig 31 Foxhounds.
This supplemented their other testing of ground based laser anti satellite weapons. While Liberals in
Congress and the press lampooned and vilified Reagan for "Star Wars", the Soviets were busy trying to
achieve the goal first, and our actions were a response. In fact, 1988 presidential candidate Michael
Dukakis was quoted as saying, “The way to stop the arms race is to stop building and testing nuclear
weapons.” It would seem his policy of unilateral disarmament was the same as the Democratic Party
as a whole, both then and now.
Jump forward to this fall and we find a report released from the State Department that shows the
Russians were cheating on the first START Treaty from the moment the ink dried right in 1991 up to
the expiration date on the treaty December 9, 2009. Oh, you say, we gave them a restart button
though. This lets them know that a nasty pro American government is gone and the new international
post-American citizens of the world are now in charge. This time they will follow the treaty because
they will realize that the Democratic Party would never act in America's interests. This will allow them
to be at ease.
They may be right. It could be the reason why the Russians laughed and put off their signing of the
treaty until next year so they could spend the holidays laughing at us and partying. We shouldn't be of
any concern to them. They can build new nukes, anti-satellite weapons, new fighters, whatever they
want. They might even finish their conquest of Georgia and reabsorb the Ukraine. Why not? Who will
stop them? President Obama? He can't even hold a podium against impeached former President
Clinton, much less pledge the support and protection of the United States to anyone overseas.
Moving on from the destruction of our national security we come to the economic corrosion that has
weakened the nation. Not satisfied with destroying our safety, the Liberals are going after prosperity
hammer and tongs. The redistribution of wealth is in full swing. The Obama health takeover is
destroying the country and tax dollars are now being used in marketing the program. Every day on TV
your money is being used to tell you how great slavery is. Just submit and you will have a lower copay.
So much is being pushed in the lame duck session. Why? Why wasn't this done during the regular
session? Because the Democratic Party knew, they knew, that what they wanted to do was in direct
opposition to the will of the people they represented. They could not push their agenda openly before
the election fearing the loss of power. When they lost power anyway because of what they did do in
the regular session, they engaged in a scorched earth policy of trying to slam through everything they
could before they lost the reins of power.
The Dream Act, Don't Ask, Don't Tell, START Treaty, the heart stopping pork funding bill for next
year, it was a deliberate policy of contempt for the people. There is little indication the incoming
Republican Congress will undo or even minimalize any of the damage that has been done either. They
will be as interested as the Democrats in protecting their new power. But both parties ignore the
underlying facet of reality. They are engaged in the destruction of the very institutions that support
them. The government is no longer of the people, by the people, or for the people. Like other nations
in history this one isn't too big to fail. And, if it does, this one will take the world with it into another
dark age. The Darkness that Devours is rising up again.
The scorched earth policy of the Democrats is a sign. They don't care about the people they
represent. The next two years will be a bellwether of whether the Republicans can do better. If they
do, then in 2012 they may finally be ready to seize control of the executive and then do what they
always claim they wanted to do. If they don't, then there is no hope. Rome didn't die in a year. It
didn't die in fifty. But America will die. You can know that every time you look at a deficit that can
never be paid off, and money that will soon have no value... and a military that cannot find members
and cannot and will not function.
The devastation of the scorched earth policy leaves a stench in the air. With New Years Day only a
few days away, it comes with the fervent hope that 2011 will be better, and something positive will
grow from the scorched earth of 2010.
