Palin Derangement Syndrome (PDS)
The announcement of Governor Sarah Palin as John McCain's running mate has set off a flurry of
hatred and smears not seen since Clarence Thomas was nominated to the Supreme Court. The
vicious attacks from the press started almost immediately.
First up from the fourth estate/fifth column were the smears about how Governor Palin chose to
fly home and have her baby in Alaska with her family and doctor, rather than remain in Dallas where
she was giving a speech. The implication was she was risking the life of her baby in a reckless
manner when her water broke. Therefore she was unsuited to be the vice president. It was her
judgement that was bad.
This fell flat as there were too many women out there to shoot this down. Too many women with
multiple kids. Many women had their water break and then not deliver for a day or more. They
knew this. Governor Palin had four previous babies and the press telling us she was a bad mother
didn't go over well with them. They smelled the hypocrisy of the left questioning a woman's decision
about her body when the left demands unquestioning obedience to a woman's right to choose
whether to kill her baby.
So the press went next to the smear that the baby wasn't hers, it was her daughters. They started
this vileness on the Kos and other kook sites loved by the Democratic elites and the press (same
thing.) There were pictures and conspiracies about whether the Governor looked pregnant and
whether the daughter did. Where was the decency that kept the children of candidates out of the
press? It was absent. The press has long ago shed any credibility. With this election they now went
after 17 year old Bristol Palin with full force.
However, there was something about poor Bristol. She is five months pregnant. The seventeen
year old therefore isn't the father of Trig, the Governor's baby. Did the press apologize? Did they
show the least amount of shame? Of course not. Now they had something else to savage the family
about. The teenage daughter of the Governor of Alaska is pregnant. This provided excitement to the
Democratic operatives. It proved the Governor wasn't fit to be vice president because her teenage
daughter engaged in premarital sex. It proved abstinence only education didn't work. It proved....
well, it didn't matter, dammit. Obey us! We know better. It was a scandal and that was enough to
smear this seventeen year old's story across the universe. In a full frenzy reporters dug through
anything to report next. There was even a picture of Bristol Palin's fiancé on the web.
So not only does the press and the Democratic Party eagerly bring in candidate's children for the
smears, they rebut what they say they stand for. They want Bristol to have sex, but they want her to
abort any children that might come from this and not be 'burdened with a child.' (A hat tip to Senator
Obama for the reference.) What about choice now guys? Mom chose life when she found out her
new son Trig would have Down Syndrome. Daughter Bristol chose life when she found out she was
going to have a baby. No support there from the Democratic Press on choice.
The McCain camp responded with the statement they knew the Governor's daughter was pregnant
and so what? The daughter is marrying the father and having the baby. Life is hard and they are
finding that out. They are doing the responsible thing and growing up to meet their responsibilities.
Ohhh, that hurt. One of the Democratic Party platforms is to not be responsible for your actions.
By Bristol and her family dealing with life in a mature manner it actually repudiated all the moral
relativity held sacred by the press and the Democratic Party.
Next up was the husband. Perhaps there was something there. THERE WAS! Hallelujah! It
seems when Mr. Palin was 22 he had a DUI. Now America would truly see that Governor Palin was
unsuitable to be vice president. But it was quickly pointed out to the elites that the same time the
Alaskan first dude was drinking beer with his buddies in the Alaskan small town, the Democratic
nominee Barak Obama was smoking pot and doing cocaine in New York City. Even in the depths of
their hatred the press figured out this might be a non starter.
Now the Democratic insiders are falling back on the attempts to discredit Governor Palin herself.
The talking points from the Party and, by coincidence the press, is the Governor hasn't got the
experience to be one heartbeat away from the presidency. They say she is the former mayor of a
small town in Alaska. They say she has been a governor for less than two years. However, she still
has more executive experience by running both a state and a city than either the Democratic nominee
Barak Obama or Senator Biden. This too looks to be a non starter as the press will soon realize how
weak the argument is when the records are compared.
America beyond the press rooms and Democratic enclaves, however, is not impressed with the
tantrums of the elites. The more we find out about the Palins the more we see ourselves. We see a
family facing the same problems we do. We see them coping with life the way we do. But what we
don't see is the hypocrisy and anti-American bias we see with the left.
The Palins have been through the rough times as we have. They are facing them now. That makes
them a lot more real than the fake fronts and hollow candidates the left holds up as the ideal.
P.S. Speaking of rank press bias and absolute abandonment of credibility, seen any stories about Joe
Biden? Any problems with him that might come up being only one heartbeat away from the
presidency? Any questions on him? Past issues with plagiarism? Honesty issues? His voting record
in the Senate? His voting against the surge? Of course not. Nothing the mainstream press would
cover. Only in a few web news pages are there hints of problems. Senator Biden claims to be
Catholic, yet his own bishop will not allow him to speak at Catholic venues and he was told not to
receive communion while at the Democratic convention in Denver. You would have thought a
newspaper reporter might have been interested in that.
