Press Bias, The Nation, and Freedom
How do you convince people of the need for a fair press? Do people even realize the decayed state of
those employed to inform us? They have shed professional integrity, their honor, and have instead
donned the jersey of "changing society" and "making a difference."
The White House is filled with journalists that have left their jobs to join the far left administration of
Barack Obama. From editors at Time, to reporters across the nation, any semblance of impartiality is
shed as what was covert support now is open advocacy.
Long have people known or suspected there was a rampant liberal bias. The Pew survey of the press
during the last presidential election cycle found that Barack Obama received 36% favorable and 35%
neutral or mixed stories compared with John McCain who received just 14% favorable. Reading
further into the study you could almost see the press in their shading of the stories.
After the primary split of liberal journalists for Hillary Clinton fighting for their candidate against the
liberal journalists for Obama, the press congealed once again to promote the final leg of election the
cycle behind their chosen candidate. Thus the negatives and mixed were early on for Obama only to
turn positive when the deal was sealed. Therefore it is no surprise that so many journalists are flocking
to jobs in the administration they helped elect into office.
Only, the press is supposed to work for you, not a candidate. It was your side they were supposed to
be on. By their own deeds they have shown they have abdicated their responsibility as the watch dogs
of society. A recent hit on YouTube was the video of the White House Press Corps sitting as President
Bush entered the briefing room for a press conference. Then, it is contrasted with the White House
Press Corps jumps to their feet when President Obama enters the briefing room for a conference. Do
you trust they are looking out for your interests in the questions they ask of the man they idolize?
When Rahm Emmanuel calls Stephanopoulos at ABC News every morning, are they talking about
sports or how to shape the news favorably to the White House that day?
But, even more disturbing, not only are journalists flocking to work for the administration, showing
overt favoritism in their coverage, neglecting their responsibilities as watchdogs for you, the taxpayer,
and deflecting any potential criticism of the Democratic Party, they are alleged to be used as a weapon
against those that would disagree with the administration.
Chrysler is going under and creditors who manage investments are being strong armed by the
administration to accept a deal that would put unsecured unions ahead of them in line in any deal. This
means if you invested money in Chrysler you are being made to take half of what you, by contract,
should get in the coming restructuring so the political friends of the President can get more. Friends that
do not have a contract. Friends who helped sink the company in the first place. But, you don't have a
friend in the President. You don't have a godfather with the muscle to hurt you. The union does have
a godfather in the guise of the President and he has the muscle. His muscle is the White House Press
Corps. Those would be the people that jumped to their feet when he entered the room.
"Perella Weinberg Partners, Lauria said, "was directly threatened by the White House and in essence
compelled to withdraw its opposition to the deal under the threat that the full force of the White
House press corps would destroy its reputation if it continued to fight. That’s how hard it is to stand
on this side of the fence."
While the White House denies this, it is interesting to see that one by one the hedge funds who objected
to getting the shaft are shrinking daily as one by one they succumb. Are they no longer interested in
protecting their investor's assets as is their duty? Or is it more likely they are trying to not be destroyed
by a vindictive Federal Government and even more vindictive press?
While private contract rights are being stomped into the dust and rampant socialism is on the rise, no
one is putting all the pieces together for you. The Internet is not, and cannot be the solution although it
is a valuable tool to show what lies are currently being told. It is too broad to be effective to a mass
audience. A defense website might show how the White House is gutting the military. A science blog
might show how the Democratic administration is killing the manned space program leaving the future
exploration and profits to the Europeans, the Russians, and the Chinese. An economic site might show
how the rosy recovery picture painted by the partisan press is hollow, with the world slowly shrinking
in manufacturing and shipping. A health care site might show the inevitable failure of single payer, or
socialized medicine around the world. But no one is putting it together as those that do have the
podium, the mainstream press, go unchallenged in their bias, their slant, their misinformation.
Kansas is not immune at the local level either. There are several columns in The Quiet Conservative
Anthology 2006-2008 that mention the bias of local journalists. They are cut from the same pattern as
the national press. The most recognizable story of the local press corruption is actually the one that
was spiked. Operation Rescue caught the Governor throwing a dinner party for Dr. Tiller, her greatest
financial backer. They even had pictures of Dr. Tiller and the clinic staff schmoozing at the Governor's
mansion Cedar Crest. The best was a picture of our Governor Sebelius holding up a T-Shirt that said
"Trifecta- Sebelius, Parkinson, Morrison 2006" with the names framed in the state of Kansas. That
picture is still on the Operation Rescue web page. When caught, Sebelius's story fell apart with even
the barest scrutiny by bloggers, but not the professional press. They refused to follow up on the
inconsistencies. They spiked the story.
If you think this isn't a problem because the bias is matching your own world view, take a moment to
think about the ramifications. Facts are not flexible. If they become so, then you cannot define what is
or is not happening. If they lie and conceal when you want them to, what is to say they won't when
you don't want them to? It is a matter of character after all. If the press is not honest, they are not
fulfilling their role.
To keep a free nation there is the need to be informed. There is a need for a free press for that task.
A press that is dedicated to a set of values and ideas such as honor, truth, and the American ideal.
Such a press is not an advocate of anyone other than their reader. When that is achieved, what comes
of this nation and the freedom it was blessed with through so many generations, will once again be in
the hands of its citizens.
